Writer User Experience Report: Local Transcripts Without Credits
Prepared by the LiteRec team from authorized user feedback · Updated October 13, 2026 · Based on LiteRec 1.2.4
For people who work with text, the way transcription is billed can matter as much as the feature itself. Rachel Foster was drawn to a one-time purchase without local transcription credits.

User feedback
The transcription feature was what caught my attention. I was tired of tools that charge by the minute. Paying once and not worrying about transcription credits is refreshing.

A preference for predictable local usage
Rachel’s feedback concerns the payment model: buying the app once and using local transcription without per-minute charges.
No additional usage fee applies to local models. The initial model download requires internet access and storage. Optional cloud models use your own provider account and may incur separate charges.
Turn existing recordings into editable material
LiteRec can import audio or video, generate a transcript and export reviewed text. It can also record audio already playing on the Mac, without pointing a separate recorder at the speakers. The current version does not capture a microphone; existing spoken-note recordings can be imported.
For writing material, text makes themes and passages easier to locate, while the original recording retains tone and context. Keeping both supports later quotation checks.
Move from transcript to original writing
A practical next step is to check names, terms and figures, replay intended quotations, then export to a writing tool. If AI helps group themes, ask it to use the supplied material without inventing statements.
These are workflow suggestions from the LiteRec team. The writer still decides the argument, structure and final wording.
Assess it with your own material
Rachel’s comment provides a concrete example of a billing preference. A short representative recording can show whether recognition suits your work. Names, quotations and important numbers still need checking. Local transcription supports up to five hours per file.
